Locate the MAF sensor in the intake tube
The MAF sensor sits in the intake air tube between the air filter box and the throttle body. It’s a rectangular or cylindrical housing, typically black plastic, with an electrical connector on it. On most vehicles it’s within easy reach without needing to remove other components. It has 2 screws (usually Torx T20 or Phillips) and one electrical connector.

Disconnect the connector and remove the sensor
Press the tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight off — don’t yank at an angle. Remove the two mounting screws. Slide the sensor out of the intake tube. Look inside — identify the sensing element
Look into the MAF housing. You will see one or two thin platinum wires or a platinum film element suspended across the bore of the housing. This is what you are cleaning. Even the lightest physical contact can break or bend it permanently.

Spray 10–15 bursts directly onto the sensing element
Hold the can 2–3 inches from the sensing element. Spray 10–15 short bursts directly onto the wire. The cleaner will dissolve the contamination film. Let it soak for 60 seconds, then spray 5 more bursts to rinse. Do not shake or rub the sensor. The cleaner does the work — let it dissolve and drip off naturally.

Allow to dry completely — minimum 10 minutes
Set the sensor aside with the sensing element pointing down so any excess cleaner drips away freely. Wait at least 10 minutes — 15 is safer. Do not reinstall a wet sensor. Reinstalling while wet can cause a momentary electrical short on startup and may cause the PCM to store additional codes. Reinstall in original orientation, clear codes, test drive
Reinstall the sensor in the same orientation — most MAF sensors have an arrow indicating direction of airflow (pointing toward the engine). Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks firmly.
